Duke Nukem 3D: Atomic Edition
Duke Nukem 3D: Atomic Edition - this is a cool, obezbashy, drive, moderately obscene, beautiful and quite popular for this time first-person shooter.
First of all I want to mention the very name of the game - Duke Nukem 3D. Not just Duke Nukem, namely 3D. It is already clear from the name of the title that the developer was first of all trying to understand the three-dimensionality of the game. Since, firstly, the first 2 parts were quite modest platformers and, in the second, the same was the time of development of the three-dimensional graphics engines. And this part with engine, named The Build Engine, was a rather serious step in development after the famous Doom and Heretic and a worthy competitor to the first Quake.
Nowadays, those who have not witnessed the development of three-dimensional graphics may find the new engine capabilities at that time ridiculous, such as squats, jumps, character movements on all axes, interactions with some objects, switches, buttons and other features that Now you will not surprise anyone. And even at that time something was underdeveloped in the face of the enemies depicted in the world of two-dimensional sprites. Nevertheless, the game was really cool and had a lot of moments from which it was not easy to drag.
For example, with overpressure in the bladder, it was possible to drain the urine, and not where it fell, but in a specially designed device for this - a toilet. Or, going up to the mirror, we saw the reflection of our character, which pressed the button *action* admired his coolness.
Our hero went to battle, too, not with bare heels. The game has a fairly rich assortment of weapons, ranging from boots, pistols, shotguns, grenade launchers to various deforming magnifiers and diminutives, freezers, destroyers and other things. There was also an inverter, such as:
- first-aid kits, without which nowhere,
- scuba gear to breathe underwater
- boots, so as not to melt in acid,
- night vision goggles
- jetpack for flight
- and Duke's hologram to distract enemies.
Also, the developer did not stint on the number of levels, which were initially divided into three episodes:
- In the first, just the most famous, the action takes place in Los Angeles, where we are fighting against occupying newcomers.
- In the second - we visit ourselves at the orbital station, which has become an alien incubator, and we spread everything there.
- And in the third we return back to Earth, in order to eradicate the feverish threat once and for all.
Generally, to be honest, you can not bother with the plot of this game. And why is it needed? Shoot, bomb and blow up. Everything! And even in spite of the outdated engine, you can still grab a lot of satisfaction.
