Metal Gear is the very progenitor of the modern genre of stealth games.

Frankly speaking, the PC version of the famous legend leaves much to be desired: not only is the initially strange NES version ported (in the manual instead of the nameless Main Villain there is a parody of Muammar Gaddafi and instead of stylishly crawling into the sewer base, the Snake is simply thrown away with a parachute), she is also trimmed in comparison with her. There is no sound, the graphics are shrunk before the EGA (there is, however, also the CGA mode, scary as a mortal sin), the control is so-so.

The only salvation of the soul - the gameplay has remained unchanged ... This time. And there are two more: the PC version is the only one of all (except for the upcoming re-release of the MSX version of it as a free application for Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance), which was translated into English by a person and not an automatic translator, and because for the series is very uncharacteristic, sorry, puke is drawn not from the plot, but from the graphics (usually it was the other way around).

So. In the yard in 1997, a distant future for those times when the game was made. Some small, but very brazen African republic of Hindra decides to defend its independence in a super-original way - nuclear weapons. The means of incarnation becomes a Polish scientist named Dr. Pettrovich Madnar (who is correctly translated by Dr. Drago Petrovich Modnar), the genius of robotics, and his creation is a giant walking robot named Metal Gear.

The secret Merkan agency FOXHOUND sends its best agent, Gray Fox, to Hindra, in the wilds of the Outer Heaven fortress, but it disappears without a trace in these wilds. Under the protectorate of the head of FOXHOUND, a guy with the call sign Big Boss, to save the legendary hero and the unfortunate Pole, and at the same time the whole world, they send a green rookie who received the call sign Solid Snake. The snake, equipped only with a walkie-talkie and a pack of faithful “Lucky Strike”, is thrown into the jungle surrounding the fortress ...

Even through the thorns of poor porting, the genius of the game flashes - and if you remember that the closest competitor - AirProne Ranger from MicroProse - is also a port, only with C64, many flaws become excusable. The serpent is chronically unarmed and extremely mortal. Two or three bullets, a couple of strokes with a bayonet - and that’s it, you can play the march. Funeral. The unfortunate father will receive a funeral ... Well, yes, yes, in this series he still does not know who his father is ...
Fortunately, the same goes for his enemies, so everything is fair. But on our side there is a bottomless backpack, Boss’s “smart” instructions on the radio and an element of surprise. Use them wisely and everything will be fine.

The game is highly recommended to everyone to test the strength of their own patience; to all fans of the series who started with MGS and therefore have little idea of ​​what Fox is so strong and who the Boss was all the same ... Well, all the rest go on to emulate the MSX and NES emulators in order to play the version with sound and sane graphics with management.
